Abstract

Ipsilateral femur and tibia fractures occur after high-energy trauma, accompanied by craniocerebral, thorax, abdomen and internal knee structures. Because of their kinematics, they endanger the patient's vitality or leave serious sequelae, so the approach must be multidisciplinary, with the priority of saving life, followed by adequate damage control and the definitive surgical resolution to treat these fractures and if it were the case repair soft tissues of the knee. Descriptive and observational study of a series of 32 cases at the Alcívar Hospital, period 2007 to 2018. The variables considered are cause, treatment received, complications and functional results. Fractures were assessed and classified according to the classification of Fraser and Gustilo Anderson. Of the 32 patients, 25 were men and 7 women, with an age range between 11 and 54 years with an average of 28 years. 23 patients (72%) were due to traffic accidents. The patients received multidisciplinary care in most cases, however, complications occurred due to the magnitude of the trauma in several patients such as amputation, severe brain damage and death. Proper and timely treatment can reduce complications and good results can be obtained in most patients.
