Abstract
The congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a unilateral contraction of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (ECM) of prenatal origin, an ultrasound study can reveal fibrosis of the ECM muscle. Radiography can be difficult to interpret by distortion, is accompanied by facial deformities and tilt in the look, you can change the skeletal and pain should be addressed, even in the adult patient, in the pre-puber patient can have relief after surgery. We present a brief review of the different surgical options in the treatment of torticollis in adult patients and we report a successful case with the bipolar release of the ECM in a young patient. A 13-year-old female patient presenting shortening of the ECM muscle on the right side with head tilt for the same side and tilt of the chin to the left side, condition from birth, the ROM for the left lateral inclination is 30°. The bipolar release of the muscle was performed under general anesthesia. The postoperative functional and aesthetic results were satisfactory.
