Abstract




Total knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement is a surgical procedure that aims to eliminate pain, restore joint mobility, as well as muscle, ligament and other soft tissues that control it.
Objective: to determine the usual size of the total knee prosthesis components at the Eugenio Espejo Specialty Hospital in the established period of time.


Materials and methods: A retrospective study was carried out in which patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty performed at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Service of the Eugenio Espejo Hospital in the city of Quito were included. Measurements of different sizes of prostheses were taken from the suppliers available in the market. Results: The highest percentage of patients underwent surgery was female. The most used size in the femoral component was 58mm, while in the tibial component it was 42mm.


Conclusion: The usual size in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty was 58mm in the femoral component and 42mm in the tibial component.
