Abstract
The formation of cyclops nodules is a complication after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
reconstruction, the cyclops lesion is a fibrovascular tissue nodule, which forms at the site
of an ACL reconstruction and is characterized by loss of extension terminal knee.
We present the case of a professional soccer player, who underwent anterior cruciate
ligament (ACL) plasty surgery with hamstring autograft, underwent insufficient
physical therapy and underwent surgery for the second time for anterolateral ligament
reconstruction by Lemaire’s technique. Months later, he resumes sport activities, present
pain, a sensation of edema and a foreign body, in nuclear magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) a fibrovascular nodule (cyclope injury) is indicated Arthroscopy + nodule exeresis.
The objective is reporting the case in a professional athlete after ACL plasty with a
cyclope injury.
Although there is a variety of etiologies for the formation of the cyclope lesion, the
extension deficit in the early postoperative period stands out as an important risk
factor, which gives rise of ethylogy in our case and despite not having an affectation in
the extension during the physical examination shows other symptoms such as pain and
limitation of activities, which gives rise to a symptomatic cyclope injury that requires
definitive surgical resolution.
