Abstract
Introduction. In the treatment of the tibial shaft fractures, the use of the intramedullary nail is an excellent alternative. We describe the use of the intramedullary locked nailing using 2 different types of nails: Orthofix and AO nail.
Objective: To determinate the differences between both groups in consolidation time rates. Material and methods: The study is comparative between two groups of patients. The first group corresponds to patients treated with orthofix nail in the Hospital Alcívar and the second group corresponds to patients treated with AO nail in the Hospital Abel Gilbert. Both groups are classified by age, fracture mechanism, consolidation time, tibial fractures associated with fibula fractures.
Results: There is no significant difference in the consolidation time between both groups. Both techniques are effective in the treatment of fractures if it exists a fracture or osteotomy of the fibula.
